The Genius of Leonardo…Larger than Life!

The beauty of being here…always something to explore, experience, discover, visit, revisit, and dive deeper! And recently experiencing something “new”…a new way to experience Leonardo da Vinci!

Experience the Genius of Leonardo…

♦ Fine Art Meets High Tech

An innovative merging of fine art and high tech is resulting in an entirely new generation of multi-media presentations: presentations that can project bigger than life images onto walls, ceilings, buildings and that can be experienced by anyone!

This new generation of tech meets the art world has opened a new phase and a new way to bring masterpieces (which can typically only be seen on site) together in dynamic and portable/traveling experiences. Not only can they reach a much broader audience but it becomes accessible to those who may never be able to see them “in person”. Fabulous!

An example of a “multimedia immersive exhibition” is currently here in Florence. The “Da Vinci Experience” is described as a virtual experience and, yes, it gives us the opportunity to virtually experience the genius of Leonardo da Vinci.

Santo Stefano al Ponte is the location of the Da Vinci Experience

Taking place in a de-consecrated church, Santo Stefano al Ponte, the long neglected building was given a “new life” in 2015 under the new name of Cathedral dell’Immagine and began offering immerse art experiences. The interior has been recreated into an art space dedicated to the great world art masters.

During COVID and the months of various levels of lock down they were offering the Van Gogh experience (which I know many of you have seen) and, unfortunately I missed it. (I was told they will be bringing it back and I will definitely attend!)

Leonardo Da Vinci
Of course there is a gift shop with all kinds of Leonardo-bilia!

However, since early June and continuing into November, the “Da Vinci Experience” is here and definitely worth seeing!

♦ Leonardo…Larger Than Life!

Born in 1452, we are still dazzled by his incomparable genius! This experience is an excellent introduction to Leonardo whose insatiable curiosity, imagination, superior talent, and singular genius extended into so many fields.

Leonardo Da Vinci
A biographical timeline of Leonardo’s life and travels…

Your experience begins with an introduction to models of his machines – life size and scale – reproduced from his original designs. Along with the models are enlarged reproductions of many of his superb drawings and meticulous studies and sketches giving us the opportunity to appreciate their exceptional beauty and his remarkable gifts…

Studies, paintings and works from various museums around the world or in private collections are included so this is a rare occasion not only to “see” so many his famous works in one venue but to see them “up close and personal”!

Leonardo Da Vinci
Profile/study- the detail…

When you enter the main space, you will find yourself literally surrounded by a dramatic presentation of sight and sound – the works of Leonardo digitally mapped on every wall and surface in high-definition and a Dolby Surround soundtrack..I think Leonardo would be impressed (and even pleased)!

Some of his masterworks: a portrait, Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man

More Masterworks including: Portrait of a Musician, La Belle Ferronniere, Portrait of Isabella D’Este, Lady with an Ermine…

The Last Supper projected and magnified..incredible!

I offer a few images and, should this experience come your way, I encourage you to go and bring the kids! (And, by the way, it is family friendly and affordable!)

    • Phyllis,
Yes, very interesting and I did go (which is how I took all of the photos :D)! There is another interactive Da Vinci Museum here in Florence as well.
I have yet to get to Vinci but eventually! Of course, with COVID and lingering staff shortages, many smaller venues have limited hours or aren’t even open – always best to check!
All well, especially now that the temps have lowered!
      V.
