PostcardZ from Sicily…

Sicily….

Surrounded by water, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and, along with her surrounding islands, Sicilia is the largest region of Italy.

Rich in contrasts, with its magnificent seascapes, steep rugged coastlines, rich and bounteous farmlands, arid and rugged mountainous interior, vast fields of wheat, volcanic east, Sicily is unique, enigmatic, and seductive.

As with every island, Sicily is defined by her relationship to the sea and it has defined and shaped her history and character. With the Mediterranean Sea to the south and southwest, Ionian Sea on the east, and Tyrrhenian Sea on the north, she is simultaneously confined/protected and vulnerable/isolated.

Sicily’s unique and advantageous position at crossroads of Mediterranean; its strategic location and bounty of land and sea have been its blessing and its curse. She has been invaded, conquered, looted, cheated, deceived, labeled, misunderstood and, to this day, stereotyped. Never the victim, she is resilient, proud and I would even say fiercely independent.

Sicily is also in my blood, my roots…and for that I’m grateful. Read more about this unique and beautiful place…
