♦ Finding My Muse…in Florence ♦

Let's Go to Italy Together!

Ahh, Florence…Where There is Always More!

I’m not sure how many times I have been to Florence but I am sure that I never tire of her. A city like no other, birthplace of the Renaissance, bursting with artistic treasures, and the shopping!!Florence

Florence

Being here is always a magical experience and, once again, I am captivated, fascinated, enamored, and, si, inspired! Florence Surely, if one is to find their muse, this is the place!?

Let's Go to Italy Together!Everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, you look is another spectacular example of why Florence is so glorious- stunning treasures and masterpieces, art and beauty greet you at every turn…Florence Florence More magnificent museums than you can count, all housing works of some (Florentines would say all) of the most important artistic geniuses of all time…

Since I have visited the most well-known of the museums here (such as the Ufizzi, Academia, Bargello, and Galileo), I chose to either return to or visit a few new.

One of my favorite museums anywhere is the fabulous “New” Opera del Duomo Museum. Opera means works and this museum holds the original treasures of Santa Maria del Fiore, the iconic symbol of Florence…Florence

Masterpieces by Donatello, di Camaino, di Cambio, Ghiberti, Pisano, della Robbia and so many others…Florence

The stunning “Silver Altar” depicting the life of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence…Florence One of Michelangelo’s last works- only partially completed, Pieta, was initially intended to decorate his tomb. His “self portrait”, as Nicodemus, is extraordinary.

The museum provides several “touchable replicas” – truly an incredibly moving experience for me !Florence

The next two museum visits were for the first time and, both of which, I would highly recommend.

Leonardo da Vinci Museo is fascinating and a tribute to the remarkable genius of da Vinci. It is particularly compelling because they have created actual life-size models of many of his inventions! Too many to list! And his remarkable anatomy drawings and paintings are reproduced…Florence - da VinciFlorence- da Vinci

The other “must” in my opinion is the Museo degli Innocenti which tells the touching story of this old hospital that became an orphanage in the 15th century where a parent or parents, unable to keep or care for their infant, could place him/her through the opening, often including a note with their name and a keepsake in hopes of someday reuniting…Florence- Museo degli InnocentiFlorence- Museo degli Innocenti

Truly, a story of sacrifice and compassion…
