Loving the “Green Heart” of Il Fontanaro! ♥

♥ I just returned from two absolutely glorious days at Il Fontanaro in the ♥”Green Heart of Italy”, Umbria., and I can’t wait to share with YOU! ♥

What made it glorious wasn’t just the beautiful panoramas of verdant green or visiting medieval gems…what made it wonderfully glorious was staying with my generous friend and host, Lucia Pinelli at her family-owned and run Il Fontanaro organic farmhouse and villas!

Getting there…Paciano can be reached via the Chiusi-Chianciano Terme train station which is midway between Rome & Florence.

Everything you could ever imagine that an ideal farm stay would offer is here! Lucia, the consummate host, has thought of every detail to make your stay welcoming and comfortable – beautiful (and fully-stocked) villas with panoramic views, lush surroundings with local flora and olive trees… and decks, patios and infinity/salt water pools for lounging.

Benvenuti a Fontanaro!

Along with a stellar team, they cultivate an amazing fruit/vegetable garden at the main house! In addition to your creature comforts, being organic, green, and eco-conscious are also very important here!

♥ I loved my stay here and YOU will, too!

Beautifully appointed Villas with panoramic views and infinity.salt water pools!

Il Fontanaro produces award winning olive oil as well as their own honey, wine and now a beer! Midway between Rome and Florence, Il Fontanaro is located in the charming village of Paciano. It is extremely convenient for exploring more of Umbria (e.g., Chiusi, Perugia, Orvieto, Città della Pieve, Panecale and more!) as well as popular destinations in neighboring Tuscany (e.g., Siena, Montepulciano, Montalcino, etc.).

Paciano is a short walk…

The lovely grounds and gardens of Il Fontanaro…

The nearby medieval villages will transport you back to another era…quaint and uncrowded, you’re invited to slow down, meander and bathe in the sheer joy of truly immersing in local life.

Città della Pieve, home of Perugino, offers history, shopping and lots of tempting places to dine!

There is much to experience  and Lucia and her team are available to provide a full “menu” of suggested experiences, classes/excursions, special events, and foodie recommendations fo all ages…although the temptation to indulge in “la dolce far niente” (the sweet doing nothing) may keep you close to your villa! All this and a very friendly 4-legged welcoming committee! Perfect!

You’ll receive a warm welcome & feel at home immediately!

It had been five years since my last visit and I’m thrilled that I have guests/clients who will be arriving later this year! They’re going to LOVE it and you would, too!

I know I’ll be back! Let’s plan YOUR visit!

You need at least a week here and it’s no wonder why so many return!

(And in case you’re wondering: a week – or more – is suggested although shorter stays can be accommodated, the villas come in different sizes with varying numbers of bedrooms and bathrooms and, yes, you will need a car here.)

  1. I would love to know how to visit wineries when I visit the Tuscany area in late May. Do I need reservations or can I just show up with my family? We want to sample wines and buy some to take back to our villa. We are staying not far from San Miniato. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Susan and thank you for reaching out…That’s an excellent question. As you may have seen on various sites, Italy is VERY busy, including Florence and the Tuscan countryside (already!). May, June and beyond promise to be unbelievable. In order to accommodate guests, boutique wineries are typically by appointment. I would suggest (1) if you have a specific winery in mind, contact them now (well in advance) for reservations/information.If you aren’t sure where you want to visit, I would recommend a wine tasting tour. I work closely with KMZero (arianna@kmzerotours.com) and would definitely recommend them. If you visit small towns with local enotecas you can also find excellent tasting flights and choices.
I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes (and if you’re coming to Florence, I can make more specific recommendations – shoot me an email!)
      Salute!
      Victoria
