Benvenuti! Welcome to Puglia!
Next spring & fall we will once again be “Kicking Up Our HeelZ” in Puglia, the charming heel of Italy’s boot.
This is the first in a series of Puglia PostZ which I originally published before my first tour in 2014…Here we are, a few years later and I have to say, it was love at first sight and I’m just excited as my upcoming fifth visit as I was for my first!
My intent was and remains, to inform you about this unique region of Italy and, of course, to entice you into joining us!
Puglia PostZ #1 – Where We’re Going…
The Salento (Salentu in local dialect) region is a peninsula of limestone which divides and is blessed by two seas, the Adriatic and the Ionian.
Thousands of years prior to the first Greek settlement, this area was already ancient. Paleolithic paintings, the oldest in Italy are found in grottoes and caves that line the shores. Down through the millennia, scores of traders, raider and conquerors have all left their mark and their contribution to the sunny tip of Italy.
We’ll follow in their footsteps enjoying the crystalline waters and clear blue skies. And when spring arrives in early March and bathes the land in a riot of colors – flora and fauna found nowhere else thrive here – we’ll be there to enjoy that as well…
The cuisine and wines are as unique as the landscape and the locals are warm and welcoming… (Much more the food, wine, and culture in the coming weeks.)
We will be there again this fall (2016) an next spring (2017) to savor it all! You will be there with us, won’t you??
