Sharing the (Virtual) Ride!
On the Road Again
“On the road again
Goin’ places that I’ve never been
Seein’ things that I may never see again
And I can’t wait to get on the road again…
– Willie Nelson
About a year or so ago, I had to make a decision to either jump on the social media highway or be left in the dust. It became apparent that catching up and keeping up were no longer an option but a necessity. So I stopped dragging my little high heels and made the leap and WOW!! Not only am I glad that I did, but I’ve never looked back…and it’s been a fun and exciting ride!
Sharing the ride on this virtual highway, I’ve not only bumped into old friends, but made new and connected with so many interesting and creative people! And, I look forward to continuing on this road and sharing it with so many more of you…literally and figuratively!
Along the way, I was inspired to write my first article for Italian Notebook last August after my month long trip to Italy (has it been a year??) and thrilled to have been published eleven times since and to join their community of Contributing Writers (and a fabulous community of Italophiles!).
There have been those random connections that “stuck”…like Stephanie from Lady of the Zoos who became one of my first followers and writes about her wonderful visits to zoos all over the world and now we “stay in touch” via social media. (She may even visit the west coast next April – wouldn’t that be fun!) And then there’s Phyllis from Oracibo.com who came across my YouTube on Florence and, not only did she write to tell me how much she enjoyed it, but proceeded to write about it on her blog. We found that we have so much in common…now we “chat” online all the time.
And, I have reconnected with so many friends – some from “past lives”, like Julie, a grade school friend who lives in Italy and is now writing some wonderful SideTripZ for me…and then there’s Linda of Tuscan Muse who found me. Not only did Tuscan Muse become my first blog ad, but is now an inspiring colleague.
Flavours Holidays contacted me to write a guest blog several months ago. Flattered and thrilled, I said “of course” and we’ve exchanged twice (number three coming in fall) to great mutual success. They, too, have become a wonderful affiliate and connection. My latest guest SideTripZ was from Rick Zullo, an ex-pat whose article on Rome was a hit (I now owe him an article!). Rick has become a great contact and he and his wife have welcomed their first bambina…
All of this also led to my latest collaboration with Yle of YLTours, and my leap back into organizing a super exciting small group holiday to Italy, specifically Puglia, (along with promoting those of partners/affiliates).
Who knew???? Sharing the road, or maybe I should call it the social media super highway, has become a wonderful wild ride and I’m only beginning the journey. There’s so much more to learn, explore, and share with so many more of you…
I’m not sure what lies ahead but I know it’s going to be exciting… So, let’s fill up the tank, buckle up, put the pedal to the metal, and hit the road! Who knows what exciting adventures await us on the road ahead?
